The second FND Off Broadway evening will take place in the Memorial Hall on Friday March 8th.
Two years ago a similar event was held in the Payne Hall and that was such a success that it’s been decided to move it to a bigger venue this time.
“It’s an evening on which the many talented Jeppe boys that nobody really knew about are given a chance to showcase their talents,” said Mr Damian Pitman, Jeppe’s director of culture. “We have talented musicians, actors and speakers and those are official school activities, but their seasons are limited. This is an opportunity for those who want to come out in front of an audience and show us what they can do.”
It’s not a talent show, Mr Pitman stressed. “The teachers in charge of the activities have selected the best acts and the show is organised to provide variety and maximum entertainment.”
It will feature musical items, performed by members of the Music Appreciation Society led by Mr David Williams; Ms Bronwyn Kemp’s drama club will be staging last year’s winning interhouse play, with a new cast; the boys in Ms Shasha Northey’s public speaking club will act as MCs throughout the night; there will be a collaboration between the marimba and pipe bands; and there will even be a contribution by some of the staff.
Art works by Jeppe boys will be on display in the foyer of the hall.
“It’s only one night for now, but we will consider extending it next time, is the response is good,” Mr Pitman said.
FND Off Broadway is on Friday March 8th at 6.30pm. Entrance is free and food and drink will be on sale.
