Ntuthuko Ndimande will be going to Nairobi. Kenya in July, to run for South Africa in the 800m at the IAAF World under-18 Championships.
He is actually still under-17, so he will be running in this age group again next year, and has been making waves in the 800m and the 1500m this year.
He won the 800m at the SA Schools Championships in April in a time of 1:50,23 and then dipped below 1:50 at the SA Junior Championships, winning the race in 1;49,69.
He has the athletics community in South Africa abuzz with his potential.
And he is a committed Jeppe boy. He even took time out of his busy schedule to run for the school in the inter-school cross-country league this season, winning twice and never finishing outside of the top three over a distance that is a bit long for him – 6km.
The IAAF under-18 championships take place in Nairobi from July 12th to 16th.
