Keagan Scholtz is still in grade 10, but has been to three ice hockey interprovincials already and is hooked on the game, he says, for life.
“In my family, ice skating has always been a thing,” he says, “and I remember being taken to the rink at Festival Mall in Kempton Park as early as when I was five years old. At some stage I saw an ice hockey poster there and decided to take the game up.
So, he joined the Sabres club and came under the influence of the SA Ice Hockey and the Canadian coaches there.
“They taught me the basics and a love for the game,” he said. “I see myself playing it for a long time.”
His love for the game soon turned into a knack for it, and he’s been to the SA Interprovincial tournament twice as an under-16 and, this year, as an under-18.
