Shortly after the Centenary Celebration in 1990, The Association of Jeppe Old Boys decided to hold an Old Boys only annual tournament. In 2007 we compete for the 15^th time in 16 years.

 

The Joyce and MacNair families donated a putter in memory of Ken Joyce and the Trophy was named “The Association Putter”. Even today only “true blue” Jeppe Old Boys four ball teams qualify to win The Putter.

 

The first few years we competed at Dainfern Golf Club, then we moved to The Kensington Golf Club and following the merger, the past six years have been played at Royal Johannesburg and Kensington Golf Club, a home course to a very large contingent of Jeppe Old Boys.

 

In 2003 Jeppe celebrated 100 years as a Government school. As part of the Jeppe celebrations it was decided to include a new theme for the Jeppe Golf day and open it to the greater Jeppe family that includes parents, families and supporters of the Jeppe tradition.

 

To find a trophy, the committee searched the school storerooms and found an old trophy which was named the “Founders Cup”. It was decided that The Putter would stay with tradition and only be available for Jeppe Old Boy Teams. The Founders Cup would be available to the entire filed, except the winner of The Putter.

 

Public schools in South Africa have numerous challenges. Jeppe included, and all to often we are so immersed in our own challenges that we omit to spare a thought, let alone a helping hand, to those less fortunate.

 

Last year in honour of the late Bishop Reginald Orsmond, a Jeppe Old Boy, we introduced the Orsmond Cup.

 

The Orsmond Cup is run in conjunction with the above two competitions and will be contested by Old Boys from traditional Boys Schools. All “true Blue” Jeppe Old Boy four balls automatically participate in this competition.
