Extra Murals at Jeppe High School for Boys

We are very proud at the amount of extra mural activities we offer our boys.  Jeppe High School for Boys has a proud sporting tradition.

While many argue that sport at School sometimes receives too much emphasis, it is worth remembering that school sports do have a very significant educational factor.

In our modern times interaction between children is becoming more and more limited for a variety of reasons - television and computer games being only two examples.

Besides the obvious health benefits, sports at school teach pupils the value of teamwork and loyalty to one another and their school, the realisation that hard work carries rewards, and the fact that being a good winner is as important as not being a bad loser.

These are very important life skills that will be remembered by everyone who participates in school sports throughout their later careers.

An in depth look at all the sports offered at Jeppe High School for Boys is outside the scope of this presentation, but there is sufficient variety in the sporting activities to ensure that every boy has the opportunity to participate.

One of the big problems we are finding today is the simple element of participation.

With a current participation rate of roughly 40% we are doing very well, imagine what this great school could achieve with a participation rate of 75% or above.

We would really like to see as many boys as possible getting involved; at least one activity per term is our goal. We are very blessed at Jeppe to have a committee known as the Clubs & Societies committee. This committee is made up of allMasters-in-charge of respective sports at Jeppe as well as Patron Association Chair and vice chair people. This type of parent support epitomizes the concept of the Jeppe family that we work so hard on. The Patrons Associations were established to aid the financial burden placed on the various sporting codes.

Each Association is comprised of parents of boys currently attending the school and involved in the sporting activities. The Associations conduct various fundraising events during the year to raise additional funds which are then used to upgrade equipment, purchase new kit and employ top class coaches to ensure your son is receiving the best possible coaching in his chosen sport.

The current list of Patrons Associations is as follows:

Aquatics
Athletics
Basketball
Cricket
Hockey
Rowing
Rugby

If you are interested in joining a Patrons Association or you simply want more information on extra mural activity at the school please do not hesitate to contact the sports office through the school.
