The 100 Club (also known as the Jeppe Golden Legacy 100 Club) has been existence in its current format since 2004 and has, as its primary objective, the aim of financially assisting in the continuous development and improvement of academic, sporting and facility standards at Jeppe by creating an annuity revenue stream for the School from monthly donations from the Old Boy community.
The funds raised have historically been administered via the School (initially by Kevin Tait and latterly by Garreth Ewing [the former 1st team hockey master, who also had School fundraising as one of his portfolios]) and traditionally been utilised in one of three areas nominated by the donor, namely:
· Scholarship Funds to assist deserving boys in attending Jeppe
· Sports Development Fund – to assist the School in donations towards sports related facilities, equipment and scholarships
· Infrastructure Investment Fund – to contribute towards capital projects and the upgrading and maintenance of existing School facilities.
Unfortunately, the 100 Club has been far less successful than initially hoped for by the School. Before the JBA’s involvement, only 75 Old Boys were contributors towards the fund (approximately 1% of the Old Boy population) with new members being virtually non-existent over the past three years.
Communication from the School to Old Boys has also been poor with most contributors not being kept regularly informed or aware regarding which areas funds are utilised in. Many Old Boys were also under the impression that a quarterly draw would take place but this has also not the case.
As a result of the above difficulties, and the fantastic revenue generating potential of the 100 Club for the benefit of the School, the JBA have agreed to take over the management and running thereof with the aim of using the 100 Club as the primary Fundraising vehicle of the Old Boy community. We have already received approximately 50 new debit orders in the past 6 weeks as a result of this shift in strategy and focus.
In this regard, the JBA’s focus will be on:
· Informing members where their Funds are spent via regular communication
· Providing a governance presence to ensure that money donated IS actually in the correct areas by the School
· Signing up new members via the debit order system
· Centralising contributions into the JBA – currently contributions are made directly to the School and also the Jeppe Foundation which makes controlling this spend more difficult – by centralising collections into one account, we believe we will have greater influence on the direction in which funds are spent.
· Empowering “Year / Class Captains” with the responsibility of signing up Old Boys from their era rather than leaving one person at the JBA with this task
In our experience, Old Boys are willing to support the School with, in today’s terms, a relatively small monthly contribution of R100 provided (1) they know where the funding is being spent and (2) someone pushes them to go through the admin of signing a debit order form.
We truly believe the 100 Club, if correctly administered, communicated and driven within the Old Boys network, could provide a level of financial assistance which would be a strong catalyst to build on the significant positive developments already in place at Jeppe.
Should Old Boys wish to join the 100 Club all the need to do is:
· Fill in the debit order form located at the bottom of this page
· Fax it to 086-587 9234 or email your digitally filled out form to admin@jeppeoldboys.co.za
The JBA will do the rest.
Should anyone have any queries they are welcome to contact admin@jeppeoldboys.co.za or Dale Jackson on djackson@jeppeboys.co.za .
