THE CAUCASIAN CHALK CIRCLE
By BERTOLT BRECHT
Translated by Alistair Beaton

As a city burns with war a wealthy woman abandons her baby to flee to safety. A young servant girl discovers the abandoned child, and braving unknown dangers takes it with her. But when peace is finally restored the boy's mother returns to claim her son.
A judge sets about resolving the dispute by calling on the ancient tradition of the Chalk Circle.
But in a culture of corruption and deception, who will win?
Written by the grandmaster of theatre and filled with vivid and comic characters, The Caucasian Chalk Circle is one of the greatest plays of the twentieth century.
