A good weekend for Jeppe Soccer

It was good weekend for Jeppe soccer. The 1st team and the under-14s both played in big tournaments, and both made the knockout stages.

The under-14s went all the way and ended up winning the Parktown tournament, beating St John’s 1-0 in the final of an event that involved all of the top local soccer schools.

The first team played in the soccer competition that formed part of the St Peter’s Sports and Cultural Festival and were eliminated in the quarterfinals, in a penalty shootout, after their game against Benoni High ended in a goaless draw.

Soccer is, without a doubt, gaining in prestige at Jeppe, and the quality of play is getting better all the time.

The performance of the under-14s is very encouraging and bodes well for the future.

The first teams is a young: one there is one grade 9 and six grade 10s in the team. They travel to Bloemfontein in a fortnight’s time where they will get a chance to show what they are worth on a national stage.

The under-14 results at the Parktown tournament were:

Pool games – Jeppe 2 Parktown 1, Jeppe 2 St Alban’s 1 Jeppe 3 Midrand 1.

Quarterfinal – Jeppe 2 King Edward 1

Semifinal – Jeppe1 St David’s 0.

Final – Jeppe 1 St John’s 0.
