The cricket season gets off to an early start with the first team getting invited to the Fasken St David’s Time Cricket Festival this year. They will be playing two two-day games there on Thursday and Friday this week and over the weekend.

There is a one week break after that and then a number of Jeppe teams will be playing in various festivals around the country.

The first team will be going to the Michaelmas Festival in Pietermaritzburg from September 21st to 24th, a second XI (the stayers) play in a festival at DHS the same weekend, the under-15As are going to Grey High School in Port Elizabeth, and the under-14s will be at the Charl van Rooyen Festival which is at Westville Boys’ High this year.

The first team have tough schedule ahead of them. They play Clifton College at St David’s on Thursday and Friday and the meet a very strong Cricket South Africa TAP development team on Saturday and Sunday. Jeppe will be fielding a team that excludes their six matric players because they are busy with exams at the moment.

The full team will be at the Michalemas Festival, however, where they will play Michaelhouse, Hilton, Grey College and DHS.

All the cricketers have been hard at work in pre-season preparation and the first team has already played two warmup games. Last Friday they played against and beat a Wits University XI, and over the weekend they played St David’s.

They beat them by four wickets in a time cricket game. Luke Hall made 91 runs and Breidyn Schaper 50.
