Branden gets Protea colours

Jeppe has another international sportsman in its ranks. He is Branden Willows, who was officially awarded his Junior Protea colours for Life Saving last Saturday night. He is leaving for Spain this week as part of the South African team competing in the Spanish Cup tournament.

“This is the first time that I have received full SA colours,” Branden explained. “I got Presidential colours before, which are based on SA high performance times. For full colours you must achieve the OPEX times, which are set according to international standards.”

Branden was at the SA Nationals last week, but the Spanish Cup team had already been chosen by then and he was only allowed to compete in two events, so it was all quite low key.

“This will be my last big competition for the time being, and I will be concentrating on my school work for the next few months,” he said. “I’m in matric and we have the mid-year and prelim exams coming up so that’s where my focus is going to be. I will start training again when the new season starts, but matric’s the important thing now.
