Gaming Society

MIC, Coach: Steph Craig

The birth of gaming as a recognised activity at Jeppe High School for Boys began late in 2015. It was in October that year that we joined MSSA (Mind Sports SA) which is the governing body of gaming in South Africa at all levels: schools, clubs, universities. It is this body which can award provincial and national colours.

Games which we take part in are: Counter Strike Global Offensive, Dota (Defence of the Ancients) and League of Legends.)

2016 saw Jeppe take part in the two organised schools online tournaments.

2017 has seen a lot more action as the MSSA organisation has been encouraged to see schools participation as an entity on its own.

We hosted the Gauteng Championship (schools, clubs (both professional and amateur) and universities) in March. We entered both a CS and a Dota team 0 the Dota team took 3rd place.

We have taken part in matches and friendlies versus Parktown Boys, Parklands College, Westville High, Empangeni High, Oakland Collage, Uplands College, Grey High to name but a few of the schools.

The CS team is currently involved in a Schools online tournament spread over a 5 week period.

Gaming at Jeppe currently has 1 CS and 1 Dota team, while League of Legends, which at the beginning of the year could not field a team, has now got 2 teams actively playing.

We practise at least twice a week (Tuesdays and Thursdays), and generally play our matches on a Friday.

Gaming is an exciting new venture here at Jeppe, and its ranks and successes are growing by leaps and bounds.
