Jeppe made the trip across the Jukskei to Pretoria Affies last Saturday and, although we ended up on the losing side of the fixture, overall, the boys could return to Joburg with their heads high following some gutsy performances on the rugby field.
The first team went down 52-22, but they had closed the gap to 27-22 at one stage before two late Affies tries took the game away from them. The important thing is that they were brave throughout and never gave up, even though they were outgunned.
The first hockey team were unlucky to go down 1-0 to Affies, but the hockey section came out on top, narrowly, winning eight and losing seven of the 16 fixtures, with one draw.
The hockey teams went on to meet St David’s during week and dominated the fixture, winning 10 of the 14 games played, with two draws and two losses. The 1st, 2nd, under-16A and under-14A teams all won their matches.
And that’s the end of this part of the season. It’s time now to knuckle down in preparation for the mid-year exams.
Hockey and rugby will re-commence next term with games against Waterkloof, King Edward and Parktown.
