Central Gauteng Athletics (CGA) held the 2021 Half Marathon and 10km Provincial Championships road races at the Germiston Stadium on Sunday and two Jeppe runners finished in the top 10 of the junior mens 10km race.

Hopewell Nkosi won it, and Keaton Stansfield finished 9th.Hopewell missed the interprovincial track season due to injury, but is back to full fitness now and his win on Sunday, in a time of 33mins 22 seconds, guarantees him a place in the National 10km Championships which take place in Durban in June.

“It’s great to be running flat out again,” Hopewell said. “I’m looking forward to the nationals and to the inter-schools cross country championships which take place in the second term.Keaton’s 36:20 time was within the published cut off for qualification for the nationals, but it was announced that only the top eight runners will be included in the CGA team.

Keaton said he was happy with his time but naturally disappointed that he narrowly missed out on automatic selection. “I was less than a minute behind the 8th-placed runner, but I was under the impression that they were going on times, not positions, he said. “The team hasn’t been announced yet and I guess I’m next in line if there is a withdrawal due to injury.”

Well done to both runners, we are looking forward to watching them in the cross country next term.
