Mountain biking’s gaining ground at Jeppe

The 16 Jeppe boys who rode at Pretoria Boys’ High

Mountain biking is fast becoming an established sport at the school. The number of riders is increasing and this year we officially opened our own 4km track on the school property earlier in the year.

The team has been doing well in weekly competitions and six riders will be competing at the SA National Championships at Hoërskool Wagpos in Brits on September 26th and 27th.
Last weekend Jeppe entered four teams in the six hour category at the Pretoria Boys’ High 24 hour race.

Our best performing team came second, although there was a problem with the electronic system and the boys are pretty sure that they actually won it.

The combined under-15/6 team finished fourth and the under-14s fifth.
The 16 boys who participated all enjoyed the event, particularly riding with lights after sunset. Mr Fabio Mattueci, the teacher in charge said he heard a lot of good things about the boys.

“My highlight was the boys being complimented for their behaviour and manners on and off the track,” he said. “Several of the adult riders came to shake the boys hands after prize giving to compliment them on these attributes.”

The riders who will be going to the nationals are: Aaron Heyneke, Damian Havenga, Canion Viljoen, Kian Victor, Aaron Horn, Evan Fouche.
