When Ocean Tshimbalanga leads the Jeppe 1st basketball team out at the St David’s Marist tournament this weekend he will be hoping that the new Jeppe team will be carry on the success that the outgoing side has had this year.
“We have lost a few matric players and we are going to miss them, but there are quite a few of the team who are still here and we have some talented young players coming through,” he said.
Jeppe came second at two major tournaments during the year, and advanced to the knockout stages of several others and he is hoping they will do the same this weekend.Ocean has been a member of the 1st basketball team since he was in grade 9, so he has a wealth of experience. He also played in the second rugby team last year and is hoping to make the firsts next year.
“Basketball is still quite a new sport at Jeppe, but it is growing quickly,” he said. “The school is taking it seriously and we are lucky to have good coaches and organisers that arrange good games and tournaments for us. I think Jeppe has the potential to become one of the top basketball schools in the province.”
