Jeppe confirmed its place as the top boys hockey school in the province by winning all three knockout tournaments over the weekend.
The under-16s won the Top Eight tournament on Saturday. The tournament was played at Parktown, but the final took place at the Randburg Astro centre on Saturday evening, and Jeppe beat St David’s 3-0 in the final.
The under-15 Boden and under-18 Aitken tournaments were played at the Randburg Astro, with the finals taking place on Sunday afternoon.
In the Boden final, Jeppe overwhelmed KES to run out 5-0 winners to retain the trophy, and make it four wins in the past five years.
The Aitken final was a tense affair. St Benedict’s scored first and Jeppe had to claw their way back into the game, equalising in the second quarter and then going two goal clear just before half time.
They were cruising at 3-1 ahead, but St Benedict’s scored in the 4th quarter and Jeppe had to dig deep to keep them out and record a first-ever third consecutive victory in the tournament.
It was a historic achievement for the school. It was the first time that one school has won all three tournaments and the first time a school has done the Aitken and Boden “double” four times.
It took the number of Aitken trophy wins by Jeppe to 15, four ahead of second-placed Parktown, while the Boden victory made it 10 for Jeppe, closing the gap on Parktown, who have won the cup 13 times.
