Lesedi Moloto’s remarkable assault on the record books continued last weekend when he set new under-14 long jump and triple jump records at the NW Puk Top 20 meeting in Potchefstroom last weekend.
His 6,24m in the long jump was a meeting record as well, while his 13,07m in the triple jump bettered his od distance by a remarkable 24cm.Athletes from the school’s Elite Athletics Programme participated and, considering that this is very much the off-season they did well. Apart from Lesedi’s wins, Roberto Agrizzi won the under-15 hurdles while Jordan Johnson came third in the unde-r17 hurdles.
The meeting was the last one of the year for Lesedi – the track athletes have one more – but that doesn’t mean he will be putting up is feet now. “I may take a week or two off but then its back to training, jogging doing sprints and lots of running up stairs to strengthen my legs,” he says.
Then it will be back into full training under the watchful eye of his coach: Jeppe’s legendary Tannie Elise Smit, in preparation for the next meeting which is early next year,
