The Jeppe under-16A cricket team finished its season with a 102-run win over St John’s, making it three victories in a row at the end of the programme, sealing a huge improvement over the course of the summer.
Earlier they had recorded wins over the 3rd teams of St Alban’s and Pretoria Boys’ High – those schools don’t field under-16s – showing, according to their coach Mr Vincent Jordaan, heaps of resolve and fighting spirit.
“We may not have been the most talented team to begin with, but these were the hardest-working boys I have coached and they were keen to learn,” he said. “They showed guts and resilience and a fierce determination and fully deserved the success that came their way at the back end of the season.”
It was a team effort, but a number of individuals did put their hands up, Mr Jordaan said. “Matt van Rooyen contributed with bat and ball; Sibusiso Chilli was an excellent opening bowler for us and Cameron Murray made plenty of runs, and took wickets as well. The captain, Tristan Smith-Harding was an excellent leader, and he also shone with the bat.”
The team was honoured with an invitation to Headmaster’s Tea last week.
