The winter sports season kicked off last weekend with the traditional rugby and hockey fixture against St John’s College.
The proceedings were disrupted by an early morning thunderstorm which saw three rugby matches abandoned because of lightning, but when thing got going again, Jeppe dominated in both rugby and hockey, winning the majority of the games.
The 1st hockey team mounted a spirited 2nd team fightback to force 2-all draw after St John’s had gone into a 2-0 lead. At the end of the fixture, Jeppe had won 9 of the 15 games played with three losses and three draws.
The 1st rugby team turned it on in style to win 32-9. They outscored St John’s by five tries to nil and, although they made a few mistakes due to early-season rustiness, they showed some good touches and things are looking good for the season ahead.
Norhcliff High and Sutherland filled in for St John’s in some of the junior games, meaning that 21 Jeppe teams were in action on the day.
Jeppe won 12 of the 21 matches played, they lost three and drew 1, along with the three abandoned games.
This weekend we host St Alban’s College.
